Thoughts from your host:
Many times I have thought about meeting myself at 20 years old and having 5 minutes
with that kid.
Upon introducing myself to me I bet he would say "Wow, man I really stayed good looking
through the years."
Then I would probably slap him in the back of his head. Really hard.
That would get his attention.
Then, I would say: "Kid, the first thing you need to learn
is the importance of self-sufficiency. The second
is the importance of seeing life as an
ever changing process of growth.
Joseph Campbell, the great spiritual leader advised us to follow our bliss. So I thought to
myself; I like beer, Black Sabbath, pizza and women.
In an effort to find spiritual contentment I went to a hard rock show, ordered a slice
with
Pepperoni, got bombed and hit on a girl with a unibrow. However, I remember not feeling
fulfilled.
Then I thought to myself, well...perhaps this whole artists trip is a process of slow meticulous
growth and development.
I turned to my unibrow having female counterpart and said, "Hunny, should I develop some
new web based interactive guitar lesson
site to accompany a group jam?"
She said, "Yes Rich, however its going to be a long time to figure out all this web based stuff.
But In the end,
you'll realize that not only is the whole world shifting over to the internet,
but you will find artistic satisfaction in this new journey of growth"
I believe that there is a line that every artist crosses. something of a right of passage. When
you cross it, it is undeniable
because people will let you know that you did something great.
I think if you cross it too soon, you risk self destruction.
It is essentially what separates the
hobbyist from the genuine artist. Steve Perry says "well, if it was easy, then everyone
would be doing it"
I believe that. There are absolutely no shortcuts in the journey of being
an artist. Believing otherwise is the path of the fool.
In addition to tutorials of great songs, this website is about going through that trip.
It's about the challenges we face
the rewards we will see, the thresholds we cross in an effort
to find that perennial sense of accomplishment that man and woman
has been searching for
since the beginning of time
And we are going to finally realize that this trip can and will be fun.
